Communications planning isn't one and done. Your plan lives and breathes; it needs ongoing attention, analysis and adjustment to thrive. Asking the right questions, regularly, can help ensure you (and your strategy) stays attuned to and aligned with the challenges and opportunities most pressing to the business. Your boss is one of your best resources for the insights you need.

You likely have a lot of knowledge about the business' goals, but think about these factors through your boss' eyes:

  • What's most important right now?
  • What are you most excited about?
  • Where do you see growth coming from?
  • Do you think the business strategy is going to change?
  • What is your vision?

You don’t need to ask all of the questions; they’re meant to conversation starters, and to probe into priorities and perspective. If nothing else, you’ll come away with confirmation that you’re (still) on the right path. Bonus: your boss will know it too.
